English as Second Language

ECHOS families can be challenged by language barriers when accessing services such as health care, education, and social services.

In 2016, students from 9 countries of origin attended the ESL classes.

A “working knowledge” of the English language enables new immigrants, refugees, and their families to navigate the workplace, the grocery stores, healthcare, school system and life in Houston.  Language barriers often prevent clients from accessing all of the social services they may be eligible for.  Learning to speak English empowers our students, helping them integrate fully into the community.

ECHOS operates beginner and intermediate English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.

The classes are taught by volunteers two days a week, three semesters a year.

If you are interested in signing up for a class please call 713-270-0369 or email info@echos-houston.org
